I'm going to get another Harvest Maid dehydrator. It lasted 15 years and costs MUCH less than an excaliber. I dehydrate to save money, so spending a fortune on a dehydrator does not make sense for me.
Just realize that Harvest Maid is Nesco and they are not made to the standards of 15 to 20 years ago. They are still good machines, yes, but are Chinese made. So YMMV in compared to your previous one.

I am going to a food dehydrating class in March. The speaker will have suggestions of good food dehydrators. I am excited.

I have been on the lookout for a dehydrator for awhile now. Let us know what they recommend.

I just bought a replacement Nesco American Harvest dehydrator a couple years ago and noted a very intelligent improvement over the previous models, which is that they put the heater on top of the dryer. I have to admit my first reaction was "heat rises, so it would be better on the bottom", but since the air is fan-driven, it doesn't really make any difference. But the great part about this feature is never having to worry about stuff spilling into the fan mechanism or onto the heating element (a problem I did have with my previous dehydrator). Also, in my opinion, this is better made than the one I owned previously. Plus, all my old extra trays, etc all fit!
