Many nwhikers are scattered about the planet during the bleak winter months in our beloved Pacific Northwest. I include myself in that group this year since I was able to arrange a trip to Argentina for some hiking and climbing. Before coming to Argentina, I spent the holidays in the state in which I grew up, South Carolina. One of my favorite places to visit there is the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge which is located between Hilton Head Island and the mainland and is connected to both via a bridge. The island was deeded to the state with the condition that it can never be developed and serves as an excellent location to see many migrating and local birds.

The Reserva Ecologica is a protected wetland area located just blocks from the bustling downtown of Buenos Aires. It is also a fine place to observe birds as well as other wildlife. Many locals use it for running and bicycling and as an escape from the cement jungle.

Love the spanish mossy looking stuff in Pinckney NWR. Nice photos. I like the perspective of the island in the sand up.gif The Argentinian state flower is beautiful!

Thanks Mike, I checked out Tigre on previous trips and it is indeed a fine place for birding and exploring on its many islands.

The Ceibo is also the national flower of neighboring Uruguay.
