I went up and did the dirty duo today. I started out from The old Mt. Si TH at 9:05 under partly sunny skies and 50+ degree temps. Summitted the Haystack at 10:23 and saw only one other party on top. Headed down after about 5 minutes, getting back to the car (and a completely full parking lot) just after 11. Immediately drove over to the Teneriffe parking area and started up the road just before 11:20. It took me 17 minutes to reach the junction with the KF trail, then 1:16 from there (1:33 car-to-summit). The views were spectacular! You could see Glacier Peak, Three Fingers, Rainier, and the Seattle Metro area quite well. I sat up on top for about 20 minutes with my shirt off (January?!). I then headed down and got back to the car just before 2:00. Back in Mercer Island to help Grandma around the house. Great January day to be out! Stats: -7300' gain/loss -13.5 miles -4hrs, 40 minutes hiking time -25 minutes summit time

We skied north of Stevens today. North aspect runs went up to two feet of sweet powder! Best day skiing for me this season. I agree great day to be out!

Nice TR. What were the snow conditions like on Si? Am thinking of heading up there for the first time this weekend and am wondering what gear, if any, I'll need for it right now. Is it relatively easy to get from Si to Teneriffe(distance not being an issue wink.gif )?

Si is bare right now. Teneriffe has some snow just below the summit which is pretty much solid ice and can be avoided by staying right and as much out of the trees as possible (where it gets sun). I don't know what the traverse is like from Si to Teneriffe or vice-versa because I've never done it. Today was up&down&up&down. I could see quite a bit of snow in between Si & Teneriffe today, though. With the snow level hovering around 4000' right now, any new precip will add to it.

No snow to speak of, just before the Haystack in Si there is a sign that points to a trail which goes to the Tennerif road, a spur goes to the summit, then down the KF trail where a trip down to cross a creek leads to the Talus trail, a fun loop. Bring a map and a GPS the first time. hockeygrin.gif

About 1 1/4 miles past the Si main trailhead parking area. At the east end of the blue path in the lower right corner of the below map. It is really a school bus turnaround more or less. In fact there is a no parking on school days sign.

Be mindful about getting tickets in that "parking lot" since it is a school bus turn-around. I have heard of people getting ticketed before. BadDog.. are you following me? clown.gif

I know, its spooky, isn't it! I can't figure out why we didn't pass each other since I left the TH at 10:00 am (old si, that is). I am training for an ultra so am pretty much out all the time!

Hi baddog, what ultra are you training for? I am the quad Si guy that chatted with you on 1/9. I did a 70 lb Si last weekend in 1:47 and then went and did Teneriffe in 1:34 after that. I did Teneriffe this AM in 1:21 ...I think I am ready for Aconcagua!
