looking NE looking NW
I talked Hanzsek into one more trip before the weather changed. Dickerman was close & quick. We left the parking lot about 9 am & were the only ones there.
The trail is snow free to the long switchback to the waterfall at 4000 feet. The snow was very hard at that point & I put on microspikes & Hanzsek his crampons. The waterfall crossing required it - the creek bed is dry with no snow so we had to climb about 20 ft down the side on snow so hard I could barely get the pick of my axe in. The other side was a bit easier.

From there it was easy going up a hard packed trench to the top - traction devices recommended. Up the winter trail, the creek is exposed in a lot of places with some big holes along the trail.
Holes along creek
We had great weather up on top with no wind. Shortly after we ate lunch a couple of other guys came along, one that I had run into on Pilchuck Saturday.
We didn't carry snowshoes & didn't need them.

Schroeder, these are magnificent shots...and reveal more than I recall seeing the many times I hit Dickerman summit (oh, yes, some were foggy and rainy, etc.). Thank you for sharing the adventure!

Beautiful! Hard to believe the highway is still open to the parking lot at this time of year.

MLH is open all the way around. I drove all the way around to darrington a week or so ago after I hiked heather lake. Not a lick of snow, either.
Those pictures are wonderful. I'd like to get up there and check it out in the next month or two, I've never been up Dickerman.

Good to know. I'm planning to go out that way this Sunday and might even do Dickerman then.
