Cool! That's courting behavior I think. I was watching a local pair yesterday. Unfortunately I only had the wide, wide angle with me.

Thanks mike ... I really like your short eared owl photo too. I can appreciate how hard they are to get a decent capture. They are my current prize subject so I posted one of my shots over in the Saloon, new members intro thread. I took that just 2 days before my posting.

Kinda like that Subway commercial? "Hey, wanna be my boyfriend? Okay, give me your food!"

Short-eared owls are beautiful and very hard to photograph. They are fast, blend in easily and usually don't become active till the very end of daylight making it difficult to achieve focus. Here are a few from my last couple of outings ...

At my Mom's place in Idaho.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

so... if I emailed you the original, could you work that same magic with that hand-held shot I got of those otters last week?

Perhaps. If the original has the information in it, cropping and sharpening can bring it out, though I am far from an expert at that sort of thing. I just noticed that the uploaded versions had a lot less detail than the original on my computer, especially if I zoomed in on the original. I finally figured out that it was the resizing done at flickr, etc, and the jpeg compression. So cropping got around the resizing issue (just crop to the maximum flickr size), and the sharpening helped with the jpeg blurring. So, look at the picture on your own computer, and if it looks a lot better than when you upload it, then I'd be happy to give it a whirl.
