Congratulations on this pioneering ascent. Doing it in winter reminds me of Yogi Berra who said "It gets late early out there." Welcome back to the lowlands.

Many, many congratulations!
Two years ago we almost bumped into each other: once when you were climbing Mount Johannesburg (I was heading to Horseshoe Basin) and once when you were heading up Crater Mountain (I was heading to Jerry Lakes). I wish I'd met you then and shaken you by the hand...maybe some of the magic would have rubbed off on me.
As I said in an earlier thread, it's an adventure novel!

You are crazy... but crazy in that great, adventurous way that reminds us that this world is filled with once in a life time experiences if only we are willing to go out and find them. Thanks for taking full advantage of your mountain spirit and for sharing it with us ~Jo

Very impressive! I loved the report and photos. A little scary for me but I admire climbers like you.

Thanks all, this was a great climb in a really scenic area!
I was asked to write a feature piece for the Northwest Mountaineering Journal on this climb, and Alpinist Magazine is going to feature the climb on their online newswire (Thanks, Joe). AAI featured the climb on their blog for March 10, 2010. Very cool that others are as stoked on the climb as much as I am!

Josh, I don't think you need to feel you should catch up on anything. You've had some really great trips lately and it looks like you're enjoying yourself. I think that's all that should matter.

Tom Sjolseth and all, that is truly an impressive climb. I can see why you attempted it as a winter trial rather than summer; Black Buttes have a likely problem as most Cascade volcanoes, dirty and crumbly. The ice certainly assisted you from what I can see. This sort of climb is why I never tried out for it at Mountaineers! I would have gone on a trip and found myself far, far over my head. So, thank you for your professional mountaineering and set of photos that surely belong in the history books of local and international alpine work! Shall I suggest: Brilliant! Kudos!
