I am primarily an ale man although I have a taste for a German lager as well as a Belgium lambic. I will however drink bud if nothing else is available, but light is actually pretty good for hot weather drinking especially if you want to maintain your motor skills. MGD is my fav yellow American lager. To be more specific I would say that my fav ale to drink on a hike would be Alaskan Summer ale, St Paulie girl lager, or Huckleberry ale. Bridgeport IPA.

Deschutes "Twilight Ale" is great! Warm, cold, shaken up... It still tastes good to me, just wish I could find it in a can though.

When I can find it, I like Sapporo in the seven ounce cans. They chill quickly in snow, you can blast one down in seconds, and they never last long enough to get warm.

Saw a can of this stuff today at QFC.
As much as like genuine Michelada's, I can't imagine hiking down from a summit with 24 ounces of this sloshing around inside my gut. hurl.gif

Twilight is a very good ale, another fav of mine is Drop Top amber ale. For something a little stronger try Full Sail amber ale. Too bad they don't bottle my atf amber, Mac & Jacks. I home brew and amber ale seems to be the most difficult to brew properly, so I have a deeper appreciation for one well brewed. Right now I am enjoying Full sail LTD lager, very good, similar to Sam Adams.

While hiking versus after hiking are very different questions. After, well, there are so many fine choices (Bear Republic Racer 5 being on a short list in recent times). During, however, I lean toward distilled beer to keep with the go-light ethic:
But if I got to choose a beer, to-date, this is my favorite canned option:
But even this tasted pretty good in the middle of a week on the West Coast Trail (bought 2 cans at the Nitinat Narrows crossing):

I have to agree. Or can wink.gif . Their Serengeti Wheat is one of the few wheat beers that I've really liked. Those guys have a clue!

My best beer experience to be true was some cold MGD at the car after a Sierra trek we extended a couple days with trout, berries and one tea bag (dosen't get much better than that)smile.gif

I saw this for the first time while on vacation in Virginia last November. It wasn't half bad. I wouldn't buy it for drinking at home - far too many better choices out there, IMO - but to take hiking, that might be pretty tasty. I haven't seen it around here (although I haven't looked, either). My new favorite is Rising Moon Spring Ale (Blue Moon beer). Damn good. up.gif up.gif drink.gif
