Ten years ago today I traversed the Pratt Valley from Lake Talapus to the Middle Fork river bridge with my good friend Brian.
I remember the day well.
...
We had a great conversation the whole way. Sadly he's been gone now for a few years, but 10 years ago today we shared a great day in the Pratt Valley. It was good we took that day off and did something worthwhile.
Below is a picture of Brian fording the Pratt River on June 10, 2010. My, how the time has gone by. I have to go back sometime and see if the water is still flowing, the moss is still growing, and the sun is still shining.
Hiker crossing the Pratt River
Such an eloquent tribute. I am so sorry for your loss Bernardo. That's a great memory and beautiful photo to match. With deepest sympathies. ~z
Hi Zephyr, Thanks for the thoughtful comments. It's been a while now so time has taken the bite out of the loss. I remember Brian as a good companion and I am happy we had the opportunity to do some hikes together. I like to keep his memory alive in a positive way with a recollection once in a while. In this case, I thought it interesting that this hike happened exactly 10 years ago and it was recorded here on NWHikers. And as I said above, I really have fond memories of the day!
PS. The user interface here is pretty much the same in all that time. That's conservation!
IMHO the Pratt River trail offers the easiest line to to summit of Russian Butte. When the water level lowers a ford of the MFS shaves off about five miles from the day.
I'm sorry about your loss. I don't know what to say, words are so insignificant sometimes. Even if years have passed.
But I want to thank you for posting this on the first place and reviving it now. This is a route I've been wanting to follow for a few years now. You're the first person I've talked to who's actually done it, I had got the impression that it was a terrible idea, maybe not doable. You make it sound challenging but adventurous.
