How is the old LO holding up? I stayed in it back in 2004. The floor was porcupine-chewed and a pane of glass was missing from the cupola. I keep hoping someone will weather-proof the place at least.

Still standing, door works, has a roof and floor, so I guess it's still habitable. My partner Steve took a bunch of updated pics, but all though he is a member here he doesn't post.

I found some old pix from my film days, from the 2004 stay:

N. Twentymile L-4 tower from cupola

Great example of an enduring cupola-style LO, not to mention co-sited with an L-4 tower. I sure did enjoy my stay there: http://www.wta.org/go-hiking/trip-reports/tripreport-2004080601

This lookout was close to my home, so I visited again in about 2004. I spent a good amount of time cleaning out the old lookout (about 3 hours shoveling rat dung alone) out of the old lookout. It is not of much use anymore as there is no door and some of the glass was missing. I would much rather sleep outside that in this thing. I took many detailed photo's and sent an in depth report to the president of the FFLA (forest fire lookout association). It,s biggest threat is a shifting foundation. The newer lookout is in excellent shape, too bad it is locked.
