5 years ago I looked down upon Cow Creek Meadows from the top of Rampart (via Basalt Ridge).

I finally decided to make a personal visit up the Entiat. It's almost a 2 hour drive from Leavenworth up that loooong valley to the road's end. Not a single car at the trailhead on this 5th of July and no bugs either on this coolish morning.

I set off on the mountain bike the first 4 miles to Myrtle Lake and locked it to a tree. paranoid.gif The Cow Creek trail heads up the hillside for 2 miles.

The last quarter mile in the trees is snow-covered, but the route is self-evident. I broke into the meadow through the bog and a maze of creeks.

I wondered why it took me so long to ever come here. An easy trip back down and I rolled back to the TH from Myrtle in 40 minutes on the bike. The Entiat Trail is a great one for the hike/bike combo. I saw only 1 FS motorcycle ranger and a half-dozen hikers near the TH. The meadow is on the list of suspects for an immediate bug outbreak with lots of standing water right now. happymeal.gif Be prepared or save it for September. wink.gif

I am supremely jealous. What a beautiful sight and photo! I also looked down on Cow Creek Meadow a couple of years ago, from 5th of July Mountain... ...and had really wanted to visit it. Alas, it never happened. frown.gif

Give it a week and flowers should be all over the place. Of course, so will the bugs.... I went up there last fall in early October and it was spectacular but very cold. Unfortunately, at that time of year, the sun doesn't hit the valley until about 10:30 am! But the golden larch made the place a wonderland!

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view.--E.Abbey

Thanks for the TR, I'm thinking about heading out there on Monday. Beatiful pics, it looks just lovely. How much snow was left on the trail?
