Yesterday after doing Star and Courtney I decided to postpone Oval for another weekend.I'm thinking of doing it as a day hike and to approach from the east half way between the TH and Fish Creek Pass. I'm thinking drive up on a Friday night then car camp.Hike up/down then car camp Saturday night and drive out Sunday in the morning.

We didn't end up making Oval either when we got a look at how far away it was from Buttermilk Ridge (and all those rocks)! That route should work pretty well. It also looked like a good approach from Oval Lake up to that saddle, then on to the summit. With a camp you could tag Gray Peak too. It was a walkup and a nice summit.

Via Oval Lake is a good route and it's very moderate as Opus suggests. Oval Lakes are a worthy destination and a nice basecamp for the summit. Do it before it gets all horsey up there.

Do you plan on going in via Oval Creek or Buttermilk Creek?

Dang, Bruce. Guess I should have posted that I would be doing Oval, Courtney and Star on here before I went last week! Maybe you saw my name in the register! I haven't gotten around to a trip report yet, but I will post pics and my route to and from Oval Peak soon. PM me if you want any pertinent beta. -Matt

Hey,I appreciate the input, thanks! I'm thinking of doing Oval 17th-18th or 24th-25th.It looks like I'll be getting Fridays off again.Although I may get the option for extra work Friday...Just like every trip,"they evolve at the last minute."JUST keep me in mind if Oval is on your to do list!PM me please! If you get Fridays off, bagging another local 8,000 foot'er will be a possibility. And I'm not against doing Star again since I really didn't get as good of a view as I wished!
