Decided to check this one out since I was visiting my grandparents in White Salmon. Conflicting information out there regarding length of hike. One source says 7 miles RT....another mentions 6 miles. No!
It's really only just over 4 miles RT and elevation gain is in the neighborhood of 1300-1400 ft gain. The trail is well-graded and easy to walk on. In the next post, I will post the topo/coordinates.
To get there, take the 141 cutoff road and once on 141 itself, drive approximately 4 miles to Indian creek road which will be on your right just before the Rattlesnake creek bridge. It's signed, but easy to miss if not paying attention. Drive this road approximately .66 tenths of a mile to a Y. Keep left and go uphill little over a quarter mile to where the road levels and plenty of space to park cars on the left side. Alternatively, you can start from the Sanborn road side and it's pretty much all downhill if you arrange a car shuttle.
I'll mainly let the pics show describe the hike:
trail starts right across the road.
keep right here! Watch for the arrow sign on tree as you hike the first bit...less than a quarter of a mile.
forested section.
Be sure to watch out for poison oak!!! It's all over the place, but easily avoided if you stay on the trail.

Cool oak tree!

this area is loaded with balsamroot. Unfortunately, I missed the big bloom. Will try to get this one in mid may next year.
Throughout the hike, I ran into painters...think they were using watercolors. Must be a club of some sort. Great area for that! Alright, back to the pics:
You'll reach this sign about 1.4 miles up the trail just after you go around a big gully in the open area.
views to the west.
looking northwest now.
wonder what this one is.
my favorite wildflowers....lupines!
After traversing uphill in the open areas, you enter timber again and just after the switchback, you run into this overhanging oak branch. Private property here so stay on trail!

Topo image is will be in the next post. Overall, a solid hike with some nice elevation gain and views. Try to go on a clear day so you'll get views of Mount Hood.
I see you made it to Husom! I enjoyed that trail even though it was kind of short. I noticed the same thing about the different reports on the mileage.
