Zachster & I knocked another one off my list. I haven't done much on the I-90 circuit cuz Rainier is closer. Trail is 2,200 gain in 4.5 miles.

Trail is decent first mile then it gets rocky and rooty.

Some flowers blooming along the way bugs were out but not super annoying yet. Only a few snow patches along the way muddy in spots. I slipped once on a rock and have a good scratch on the arm but all is well.

Lake was gorgeous! We also hit the upper lake on a tip. It was well worth walking around the corner for.

Next time you can park another car at the Granite Mtn trail head and make a loop hike out of it.

I've been halfway up the trail to the nice falls area with my children when they were small but never to the lake. I was thinking about going there this weekend so thanks for the timely report.

(why I don't like I-90 hikes on work days...) rolleyes.gif The rest are why I DO like I-90 hikes...except for the rocks and roots and mud, the Alpine Lakes are absolutely beautiful. True gems.

HikingQueen, did you get lost for a moment? When I saw the thread title and the author I thought "Woah, she's not at MRNP!!" biggrin.gif Glad to see you made it up to our neck of the woods. I know it pales in comparison to Rainier, but it looks like you had a beautiful day nonetheless hockeygrin.gif
