We climbed The Matterhorn yesterday, no one else at Ice Lake, my butt is still sore from kicking myself for leaving the camera in the car, cheers

There were two small patches on the trail to the north of the lake. One steep patch at about 9400' on the summit route. Other than that every thing was easily walkable. The bridge across the river is unsuitable for stock but easily done by hikers 6 abreast. That keeps out horses for the time being as the river looks like the Icicle in flood.

Yep, the melt-out is proceeding rapidly now that the hot weather has finally arrived.
Thanks for the update.

By the "real Matterhorn", I assume you mean this one.

I was there in February of 2007. I always wanted to climb it but now I'm too old.

Then of course there's Kerouac's Dharma Bummerhorn down here in the Sierra out of Bridgeport. Great summit view on that one.
