Both Jim K and Bob are total heat wusses, so with the forecast for warm temperatures we chose a short, easy hike which none of us had done before.  In less than a mile a side trail leads to Anderson Butte, with stunning views of Baker, Shuksan, and Bacon.  After a short break we heading down to the main trail and continued to Watson Lakes.

The best part was that the temperature was moderate, and there were minimal bugs, even at the lakes! Both lakes are pretty, but the upper one is the nicest.  Here we had a nice, long lunch break, and then followed an up and down, scrambly trail to the east side of the upper lake. From here a faint path headed south, so we assumed that this is the climbing route for Mt. Watson.  Is this correct?

Anyway, our total trip was just over 8 miles, with 2700 ft. of gain....perfect for a warm day!

Nice report and pics.  I would have liked to have gone with you guys there. I still need to get in there and see those lakes.

No kidding!  There were way more bugs last weekend at the West Cady Ridge TH!

They came in waves at the Enchantments - pretty horrendous in the morning and evening but better sometimes during the rest of the day.

That upper lake is just gorgeous! One of these days I'll have to try to take this hike. That first meadow photo is a keeper too! Can you tell me,...what permit is needed to do this hike?

Thanks for sharing.  up.gif

Yes, it's a beautiful place. Nice combination of lakes and mountain views. A NW Forest parking pass is all that is needed.
