The wife and I took baby camerin and her parents to rainier yesterday. I wanted to go to sunrise but due to time constraints and health problems. We settled on paradise and longmire.
The weather was perfect, just a little cool with a pleasant breeze all day. Thin cloud coverage offered peakaboo views of the summit. The partially hidden summit gives the mountain a mystical larger than life appearance.
The park was very crowded and parking was difficult to find so we parked at longmire and took the bus up to paradise. My wife, Camerin and I
Hiked up to (I think Muir falls) Just a half mile from the paradise parking lot. The wild flowers were still blooming. Little splashes of colour littered the meadows while visitors littered the trails, the parking lot and every where else.
The inlaws enjoyed the movie in the visitors center and reading about the history of Rainier.
This was the first trip of any length I have taken with an infant. We all had a good time. Camerin seemed to enjoy his first visit to our national parks.
Although the park was very crowded people were generally pleasant.

We went Sunday as well, and it was a zoo. But, we parked down at Reflection lake and hiked the Loop up to Paradise, then back down to the lake.
5.5 miles, great trail, fantastic views - and no parking problems. I'd estimate a week to two weeks for full flower show - then wow.

Yes Camerin is doing great. It's really amazing how big he is now. 11 lbs 4 oz about 2 weeks ago. So far is much healthier than many fullterm babies.
Were the trails crowded as well?

Lots of people on the trails

Quite a few people on the trails, but once you got off the paved trails, it thinned out quite a bit. The loop from the parking lot to Faraway Rock, then up to Paradise, back down the Reflection Lake trail was excellent - just about right in every way (and no bugs).

I thought about Camerin totally out of the blue the other day. I meant to look for his thread when I got home, but of course I forgot. What great timing to hear about his first hike.

Thanks for the reminder Magellan. I've been so busy with drs, friends and realatives that i keep forgetting to update Camerin's thread.
I'll fix that as soon as I drop the inlaws at the airport.
