After a 6 mile warm up hike at Wallace Falls State Park, we headed to Steven's Pass for a night time snowshoe experience. We hoped to get up the ridge a ways and get some nice moon shots. Unfortunately, the moonrise time didn't coincide with the moonrise time on Skyline Ridge due to the height of the mountains (duh). So, we just hung out for a while, taking pics of the fading daylight and approaching night. Finally decided that we'd rather chase the moon on another night... one which would involve having extra or warmer socks along. Regardless, it was a beautiful trek and loads of fun. Plus, we came across someone's full size igloo. Really nice job on that thing! We poked our heads in there on our way down and it was quite well constructed. Sorry, no pics of that thing. Only encountered two others up there during our visit (ascending skiers). Unedited pics:

Great pics!!! Skyline is a fun place no matter what time of year. Weather was perfect for that trip and by the looks of it, you had great views... up.gif

That's a great area to snow shoe at night. up.gif Heads up if you ever go back at night and want a great shot of the rising moon there's an awesome spot near the cell tower. Instead of turning left to Skyline Lk, continue on the snow track/road to the NE. about 1/4 mile to a large clearing and communications site. You'll have a clear view to the N and East.

Thanks everyone. It was a fun outing - but darn cold waiting around for the moon to show. Next time I'll be bringing the extra socks... plus something that's at least 80 proof. Or a thermos of coffee. Probably going to make a similar trip up to Heather Meadows about this time next month. No night skiing at Baker. Should be a touch darker. ~E
