Fastest Rappel in history off the summit of Horseshoe Peak while thunder/lightning and rain encouraged speed!
Too bad the weather kept us from Booker - oh well.
Turned out to be a pretty smokey weekend, but overall an enjoyable trip

Great trip and report guys - many thanks! This is a set of peaks we've been talking about heading to in the near future and this loop looks like a great way to go!

5 1/2 hrs under the rain? That's more heroic than climbing B & B. Nice fire-cloud photos but the Oyvind montage takes the biscuit.
How does Buckner N Face rte compare to the way you came down? And, given the Bergschrund, did you consider the N couloir?

Back at car at 2:45? That was like 1:00 at Cascade Pass? Which meant you coulda climbed Johannesburg on that same day!
Well, I know you could have done Mixup.
Still....good show people!

Sounds like a fine loop you pulled off, especially with having to dodge between rainstorms.
That fire plume is bigger than I expected.

Looks like a fun adventure with just enough spice to keep it interesting!
Thanks for this pic; best one I've seen showing the final bit of scramble up Sahale. I need to get up there and do this one.

many thanks to franklin and carla for taking me on this trip. i contributed far less than my share, most notably with steps. franklin rocked the house in this department. i think i had a bit of post-sonny ptarmigan traverse letdown. either that, or i just missed hotpantz a lot.
in any case, it was mostly enjoyable, especially the easy scramble up boston and the enjoyable final steps up to horseshoe. plus, it's nice to know the easier scramble route up sahale. now, i just need to find a tent slightly more storm-worthy than my tarptent. i don't particularly care for tents that lean over 45 degrees in a windstorm despite being guyed out. perhaps i did it wrong, but man, sitting up at 2:00am, using my head to prop the tent up, was slightly unnerving.
still a good amount of snow heading to sahale route from cascade pass leading to cache col doubtful lake, cache col above, ptarmigan traverse beyond sloan, triplets, etc heading up sahale stehekin fire just starting dicey scrambling to sahale summit approaching sahale boston col quien sabe glacier and boston peak from base of boston, looking towards sahale looking back at ptarmigan traverse, cache col middle right boston glacier, buckner, and ripsaw ridge bumps heading towards boston boston summit nearing oh wait, back down for a bit moderate exposure each side many colors of rock explosion! buckner and boston glacier logan and smokey backdrop looking north from camp towards hozomeen still exploding glowing southern peaks boom morning gloom heading towards buckner boston glacier, ripsaw ridge, boston and forbidden easy terrain for sure... below our path heading towards buckner draining into skagit queen creek friends on top of buckner, looking towards exit route many classic peaks in here, sahale and boston on the left inspiring storms-a-brewing smokey stehekin sahale looks incredibly different from this vantage point ripsaw ridge, indeed fwb2 making sure he's tagged both summits from boston glacier camp, looking north thinking about the sonny ptarmigan traverse

Sweet trip! I like the "fastest rappel ever" bit, thunder with no cover tends to do that
