I had a very nice day hiking up to Monte Cristo and then on up to Poodle Dog Pass and Silver Lake. Only patchy snow until the last few hundred trail feet to the pass. Everything at and beyond the pass is under snow. Lake is open at the outlet but otherwise frozen. Some folks did dive into the 33 degree water.
After 12 miles I decided enough was not enough and added the short hike to Barlow Point. First visit since Reagan was president. As I reached the summit I was surprised to see an aluminum folding chair awaiting me. Trails are in fine shape. Just one tree down on the Poodle Dog trail.

I could never do Barlow Point after Silver Lake. Heck, I couldn't even muster energy to do Youth on Age nature trail after Silver Lake. Heck, I couldn't even do Silver Lake right now. Or Barlow Point!
Nice photos; what a pretty lady in that bikini!
(by the way, your sites acting funny again; can't load the photos).

Yes, bikinis are good.
Site seems to work fine at 9:00 pm.
The chair is definitely not in my backyard.

WOW! I went there on July 4th weekend in 2004 and there was WAY less snow than that. There were only a couple little icebergs floating in Silver Lake, and still only patches on the ridge leading to Twin Lakes.

Update: we did an over-nighter to Silver lake last night and it really has not melted a whole lot in the past month, the lake is still almost completely frozen. Not only that there were no bikinis or fish in sight. Bummer! But going up Poodle dog pass was a great workout and the trail is in excellent shape with only a couple of blow downs. The lake is not that high at 4250 ft, so I expected there to be a little less snow.
even the pond scum is still half frozen.
