With the forecast of sunny skies, I made the 3 hour drive to Hurricane Ridge. Around the Dosewallips area, I caught break in the clouds to see the snow-capped Olympics sparkling in sunlight. Wow, what a sight! Overcast skies hung on all the way up to Port Angeles. I was a little concerned it might not burn off. Within a matter of seconds, I drove out of the fog and into blue-bird skies. It was around 10AM and the place was already busy with people. Rangers asked to park close together in anticipation of the crowds. I decided to snowshoe to Hurricane Hill, but one could have boot'd to the end of the road as it was very well packed down. Trees heavy with snow, it's a beautiful walk. The skiers had us outnumbered. As I near the summit of The Hill, many people were already atop, so I hung a left and shoed out along some trees caked in snow and ice. I wonder if this is considered Rime ice? By the time I returned, the summit crowd had descended, so I enjoyed a few minutes alone before I begin the 2.5 mile trek back. Although there isn't much elevation gain, seems like the ups-and-downs add up. What an amazing place!

Gorgeous! The day and the photos. I've get to do this someday. Some beautiful day like this.

Backpacking: limited to one pack at a time. Cameras: limited to as many as I can carry.

I was out there on the 27th. We were the first vehicle up there and the first out through the fresh deep snow towards Hurricane hill. It was tough going in many places. By the time we got back to the lodge, the parking lot was packed out. <div style="width:480px;text-align:right;"><img src="http://pic.photobucket.com/share/icons/embed/btn_geturs.gif" style="border:none;" /><img src="http://pic.photobucket.com/share/icons/embed/btn_viewall.gif" style="border:none;" alt="ice-nine's Hurricane Ridge Snowshoe Dec 2012 album on Photobucket" /></div>

I've gotta get a cloaking device for my dogs so I can bring them up there.

Some people have better things to do with their lives than walking the dog. Some don't.
