There's been a lot of reports so light on the prose, heavier on the photos. The Silent Hiker and I had brought both X-C skis and snowshoes, but we decided to hoof it: since the road was hard-packed snow, not ice, we ended up carrying the snowshoes the entire day. The only spots one might need traction was a couple of slippery "ups" on the Ice Caves trail, but for the few feet involved careful stepping and/or stepping to the side worked. There was some beautiful light in the morning until Big 4 itself blocked the sun. Needless to say, the road and trail were full of folks enjoying the weather. On the return, just minutes away from the picnic area and just out of sight of it, what initially looked like a big dog ran across the road, from the river into the woods, with no else around. Literally no one - has anyone heard of coyotes around here?
Despite using a split-neutral density filter, I still wasn't able to balance the light and shadows on this:

Backpacking: limited to one pack at a time. Cameras: limited to as many as I can carry.

Wiley is everywhere. I've seen his tracks at 7000'. He steals pets in Seattle.

Some people have better things to do with their lives than walking the dog. Some don't.
