What a great climb, and a good telling of it.
I think you do these crazy stunts just to set up for a good story! If your boot killed any rats on it's way down, make sure you don't mention it.

Summitpost.org (Klenke?) says: "Is it pronounced "good-ee" or simply "good"? The answer is the latter. But most people say the former, probably because it is easier to distinguish the Goode from merely the good."
I asked a ranger at the Stehekin Ranger Station about this, and she said it was simply "good-ee." No one there had heard of calling it "good" (other than as an adjective, I surmise). Summitpost also says that it is Goode Mountain, even though most people call it Mt. Goode.
So I'm sticking with "Mt. Goode," pronounced "good-ee". Whew.
HitTheTrail: It was great seeing you out there! And puzzlr, I think you are right. You should be a shrink.

wow, impressive. love the plane approach, the great writing, the on-your-feet thinking when little disasters hit.
good lesson too, on not sitting in a creek when refreshing after a long walk.
and awesome photos - thank you for sharing, and congrats on a heartful day out !!

Couldn't you get the plane to drop you off any closer to the mountain?

Thanks, Roald! I first saw Goode on a long quasi-loop (plus a lot of luck, and friendly NPS Rangers) up Thunder Creek-Park Creek Pass-Cascade Pass (where I linked up with friends who drove me back to my car in the Colonial Creek CG parking lot. I took a nice photo of Goode, but have never been quite sure how to pronounce the mountain's name. Luckily, I have always called it "Good-ee," with two syllables.
