Interesting situation the Flathead National Forest has been involved in. Seems the USFS has renewed a lease every 10 years for a bit of land upon which a statue of Jesus stands. Some folks are incensed, some are not. Check it out. National FOrest Foundation article.

I was just skiing at big mountain over Christmas break. The shrine seems kinda weird and out of place but I guess ski lifts are not much different.

No stranger than putting a mailbox or a phone booth up there.

I am not incensed but I do think that ugly statue is out of place. If I was a local, I might be tempted to slip up there one night and beautify the place a bit. Rumi

I was incensed the other day...and I still smell kind of unusual.

Touron is a nougat of Arabic origin made with almonds and honey or sugar, without which it would just not be Christmas in Spain.

Flathead Jesus seems terribly upset by all of this controversy. Just look at his sad, sad eyebrows:
How shall we cheer him up? Perhaps a new hat and a walking stick would make him feel better!

Gateway Pundit Article Since, as everybody already knows- atheists and non- Christians are all a bunch of sinister bomb-hurling leftists who hate Jesus and the Murican way. A Catholic/Forest Service management plan to replace the trees with life-sized-or better Jesus replica statues could pay off in a number of ways. First, it would attract new congregants to the one true church, resulting in market gains, with countless souls saved from perdition before they are filed away for all eternity in the cosmic rolodex. And along with all the funds generated by this clever marketing strategy; Think Of The Children! Attendance has lagged at parochial schools in recent years, due to the troubles, but it's nothing an army of Hug-Me-Jesus replica statues can't fix. (That, and periodically rotating half of the priests into new parishes...) Because really, what makes more sense than using Jesus for a war memorial? The Council of Grand Knights has also shown us the light on keeping the GMLO. Slap a "Jesus Saves" banner up there and declare it a monument to our victory over Grenada or Panama or Osama bin Laden. Maybe a Touchdown Jesus if we decide to call it for Osama. Come to think of it, a 600 foot Touchdown Jesus on the summit of Mt Rainier would make a lot of sense. Unless you're Buddhist or Hindu or Moslem or a far-left atheist.

If it makes you feel any better, you can pretend it's Cat Stevens.

You mean Yusuf Islam, the musician formerly known as Cat Stevens.

Nah, we branded him a terrorist for his philanthropy, besides, he's getting too old to stand in for Jesus:

The statue is too white to be Cat Stevens. hey everyone knows that jesus was a white dude, albeit born in the middle east. Immaculate conception and all that and obviously God is a white man. All the pictures prove it..as does that statue. dizzy.gif hockeygrin.gif

I wonder if it would be as big an issue if the statue was of someone else? (Lenin, Che, Bhudda, Aldo Leopold)
