Drowning my sorrows of not getting the latest job in a hike today. I didn't want to drive too far, views were not favorable today but I choose Bearhead anyway, I hadn't been here and wanted to see the whole trail.

That trail is skinny steep in a few spots. I know there are amazing views of all the mts but today was in and out of clouds with just peaks of things from time to time. I just needed to walk on a trail, it didn't really matter which one. I ran into a group of cops from King County in the parking lot. They couldn't believe I was solo. They asked if I wanted to hike w/them. I said no thanks. Then a couple guys were like "what, no dog"? I'm like No, do I need a dog? Then they said they would protect me. Umm, okay it's like a 3 mile hike do I need protection? I saw a few pikas, a couple of deer, & a grouse. No bear, and the berries are out so I give it a couple of weeks and I will get my bear.

Flowers were lovely, most fading fast but with the cloudy foggy light I had to focus on something good. The flowers cheered me up.

I can't believe I've been out of work for a year and almost 8 months! I haven't really been counting hikes too closely this year but I think I'm in the 70's range. I'm looking forward to a few more backpacks before the snow starts in.

Something tells me that if you were a solo male hiker, these offers would not have been extended. rolleyes.gif down.gif Or, maybe something terrible just happened to someone on that trail, hence all the cops. Then their comments would make more sense. Sorry about the lack of job offer; hopefully your next interview will come soon! I've been out of work for about a year now, so I feel your pain... ....but all the time to go hiking is a good thing!! hockeygrin.gif

What lake is that?

I am actually looking for directions to this mountain. I might go there with BearQueen in the near future.

Nice Hike HQ! I'm sure the KC officers were only thinking of your safety and well-being in the wilderness. wink.gif They more than likely had bear spray and were packin! biggrin.gif Gorgeous Lake and surroundings. Hopefully the sun will peak through the next time you are up there.

Couple years ago after hiking to Summit Lake we drove down to Coplay to have lunch. Came across some folks who even the biggest rube would have thought....."these people are cooking meth back here". They were obviously living back there and had all the hallmarks of tweakers. I don't stray off the main road back there anymore to say the least. And I won't hike back there with just the kids. Just my personal experience though.

Did you tell the cops you have a dog? Not that your little cutie pie would offer much protection...! embarassedlaugh.gif It's probably a good idea to find out what their concerns were, just as a heads up. Looks like a pretty place, one to return to on a sunny day! cool.gif

Drive the Carbon river road almost to the Carbon river entrance to MRNP. Take a left, and if you've done it at the right place, there will be a long, skinny bridge in front of you. Cross the bridge and drive up the Cayada creek road almost to Coplay lake, then go left to the Summit lake trail head. Hike that trail to the junction at Twin lake, and hang a right. Follow that trail to the south side of the mountain, take a left at the next junction, and hike to the summit of Bearhead mtn.

Bearhead is gorgeous in the fall. Blazing color from the huckleberries, etc. and views of the Mountain, if you catch it on a clear day. Nice photos!
