Starting with this post you can now offer +/- feedback to posts on NWHikers.net. This will allow the community give a thumbs up (or provide negative feedback to undesired posts without cluttering up threads with replies to those posts). Click the + button at the top of this post to give me green biggrin.gif not the minus button unless you want to give me red. bawl.gif

Love the new rating feature. Just a quick question - how will this work with new threads split off from old ones. Specifically I was thinking of the photo of the day thread - one that could really use this feature (and is overdue for being split) If it can't be done perhaps we should start a new thread. Keep up the great work!

So what does this rating system end up producing? Will there be some kind of link that shows the top-rated posts? And conversely, does it add up to a rating for the member as well? Say, get a whole lot of negative ratings and end up with a big red bar beside your name or something? Seems like a pretty good system for self-monitoring this place overall.

Personally I think it's a bad idea..rating posts is pretty much nonsense. Okay..does each person reading it get one vote?..or as many as they like?all together?..or each time they open the post? What's to prevent "gang warfare" from redflagging all of someone's posts out of spite? Can I flag my own post? This appears to be a lot like ebay's feedback system..all one way...with the poster having no say no matter what happens or is posted.... Did ANYONE put some thought into this decision before implementing it? There you have my opinion..so "red-flag" away! lol.gif Edit..Okay..you can't flag your own and it appears you get one vote per post..if anyone is interested. On the other hand..it appears you can add a counter point after you've posted your initial vote in case you change your mind..I guess if I decide later I don't like someone..I can bring up all his posts and red flag them all! lol.gif Oh ..this is a wonderful idea... shakehead.gif lol.gif lol.gif

Thanks for the new feature. I have wanted a way to give a little thumbs up to a trip report or sharing of gear info when I use the information but just can't think of anything witty to say in response. Hopefully this can be used for much more than publicly flogging our most outspoken (overspoken?) forum members but it's nice to have that option too tongue.gif

And favorable responses seem to cancel out unfavorable ones, so a post no one cares about will have the same rating as one that half the people love and half the people hate. It would make more sense if the two ratings were shown separately, instead of being lumped into one rating.
I think the number of people who chose to thumb up or thumb down a post is in itself an interesting stat, so I agree that a separation (to show both positive & negative responses) gives a more accurate picture of the post's impact.

If you hover over the bar it tells you how many up.gif and down.gif you got. BTW every post I've made today has at least one down.gif frown.gif
