Took advantage of another great day to go check out some fall colors and revisit a peak I hadn't done since 2008.

It was a bit hazy looking in Enumclaw but the mountain was out.

A view or two before reaching the trailhead from the highway.

Surprisingly for a weekday there were two cars in the parking area and one came just after me.

The trail actually starts on the other side of the road about .1 miles (or less) south of where you park.

I was hiking by about 09:40.

The first 1 1/3 miles or so is pretty much a steep uphill traverse mole stroll in the trees then you start to break out a little. Not many switchbacks on the lower trail.

After 2.4 miles and about 2100 feet of climbing you get your first view of Rainier and arrive at a nice rocky vista. A nice spot for a break if you need one (or even if you don't).

You continue up in and out of trees mostly in the open through meadows and fall colors.

You enter more of a forest briefly before breaking out more in the open (but never totally) for the rest of the hike.

As you turn the last switchback the climb steepens for the last .1 miles or so when all of the sudden there is the lookout about two hours and 19 minutes after leaving the car.

There were people up there and more would arrive behind me. I think we had about 7 people up there for a while. There is some room up there so it isn't like some summits.

I noticed the highway down below and foundthis spot on the way back for the 2nd and 3rd picture here back up to the lookout. Easy to miss on the highway driving up (as I did) unless you are looking up in a narrow window.

Wanting to sit down it was time to retreat down below to find a rock to sit on to eat lunch. By now everyone else had left.

On the way down I left the trail to explore the knolls just off the trail. Not a lot different. Did see some animal (elk?) tracks and droppings.

Once past the rocky vista you don't see Rainier again on the hike as you round a corner and descend but there was still some views and fall colors. Unfortunately the sun wasn't the greatest for shots out to the south and there was a bit of a haze.

A lone hiker (who I never noticed on top) would pass me as I had just resumed from stopping to get a banana out of my pack and stow the hat.

Back at the car just before 3PM for the 70 mile drive home. Traffic was light and I was almost shocked when I got back to Enumclaw and it was hazy/overcast and cooler. I guess I picked the right place to hike!

So many great pics in your report.  I hope you don't mind but I JUST had to place a link for this report on the Summitpost page for Shriner.
