delicious looking dinner....Is the parking lot a scenic place for car camping the night before the hike?... and is the road easy for a wimpy city car?

What a nice trip. Lovely pictures, I love the moody pano and the stonecrop especially.

Ethel and I drove up there last Sunday, to see some color. We got a late start, and with the long drive, we only had an hour or so to walk. Walked south on the PCT to the place the trail crosses over the ridge to the other side. WOW, what a great area for larches and views. It was cold when we were there, and we were ill prepared, no hats, wearing death cotton... but still worth the chill for the views. The CG is Meadows CG. Looks like it would make a nice base camp, though all the trees around it are now snags from an old fire, so not much shelter from sun or wind. The road was a trip. I love stuff like that, but it made her nervous. However, we had no problems at all driving up in a VW Golf, so I think about any car can make it, if the drop offs on the side don't scare the heck out of you. --Gray

Thanks for the cool pics and report on someplace new (to me, anyway). I wish the larches weren't quite so far away though. I'll have to make some plans for next year.
