Steve, Lloyd, and I decided to stay local, do something scenic at a slower pace, and enjoy the weather. They put a new TH on the North side of Horse Lake Mountain aka Twin Peaks so we did a car to car hike starting at Number 2 Canyon Roads TH and running up a cross both peaks a long the ridge to the abandoned farmhouse and out the new TH. I have been up there many times, but never to the far North shoulder or abandoned farmhouse, so something new. The trip was very scenic and in the Spring will offer great mountain as well as wildflower views. I estimate it's about 8-8.5 miles long with maybe 2500' of gain going that way. up.gif

I had been out exploring the new trail extension from the Horse Lake TH a couple of times this week but now I know where to connect the hike to twin peaks, thanks to Rod and Steve's thru hike idea. Great day with good company, even though it took slightly longer than we had anticipated. I had told my wife I would take her to lunch after the hike. That turned into a dinner date!

Take risks not to escape life, but to prevent life from escaping I may not have anyone rocking my world right now but, I don't have anyone messing it up either.

We should of had a bunch of great shots from Mission, Teanaways, Enchantments, Chiwaukums, Glacier Peak Area etc..., but overcast and controlled burns snuffed out the sun light in the afternoon. It was surprising to see that most sub 6k' peaks had no snow on them East of the crest, but on a blue sky day this trip would offer some great eye candy near and far.

If you are talking the road to the new Horse Lake TR it is just fine. Even for a low 2wd car. You won't believe all the money they put into that TR! It even has engraved basalt pillars at the start of the trail

I thought I read somewhere that it was 2.3 mil in private donors for the purchase of the land for the land trust. I could be way off though. I'm going off of vague memory here.

Yeah, and it looks like they put $1 mil of it into the new TH construction.

Thanks for the report and pictures. Growing up in Wenatchee, the Twin Peaks (Horse Lake Mt) and the area around the old wheat field was our primary deer hunting area. Many great memories up there. I'll have to check out that trail.
