Today Adam and I were joined by Skylar to hike up to Skyline Lake and Sky Mountain. We had first thought of hiking up to Big Chief Mt but changed our minds and then learned that we didn't have a map that included our peak. Lucky for us Adam had his GPS with him in case we were in need.
We parked at Stevens Pass and followed the road up for about a mile and then just before the radio towers we escaped to the trees and made our way westward. Of course what trip up here is complete without the obligatory stop at the lake.
Skyline Lake
Circling the south side of the lake we soon found ourselves on the top of Heather Ridge and made our way through some snowy rocks in search of the ridge highpoint.

We backtracked and then dropped below the ridge and gingerly traversed the steep and slippery slope since a ridge traverse would not have been a safe option.
At 12:30 or so we were on the summit of Sky Mt and soaking in the views and the nice sunshine.

Below us was Tye Lake

And to our north was Tye Peak which we had considered as a third highpoint of the day.

We opted to not head for it and instead started back.

At one point Adam slipped on a rock covered with wet moss and slushy snow and he went down. Sadly he hurt his shoulder pretty badly. In no time he was rather sore and anxious to get back to the car. The bummer part was that we still had the steep and very slick traverse below the Heather Ridge highpoint to get through.
At one point I slipped and went down about 7-8 feet before stopping myself by doing a near splits between 2 trees.
Adam's sore shoulder hampered his abilities on the steeps and the upcoiming rocks before we could finally reach the road.

By the time we got to the car Adam was a hurtin' hiker and unbeknownst to me, I had lost a snowshoe when I fell (I hadn't worn them and didn't realize it's loss until I got back home)
I got the guys back to Edmonds in time for it to get dark and after realizing my snowshoe was missing I went back to the pass in hopes of finding it in the parking lot, well I wasn't lucky in that quest.
On the bright side, we did get 2 great summits that were fun and offered some good challenges and we got Skylar out in the mountains just a few days before his birthday!

Glad I was in contact with you all during the hike. I hope Adam is okay and will be praying for him because he has some big plans. Pretty pictures and great TR.

Cool TR! The scramble was awesome and a bit more challenging than I expected. All in all a fun trip. I hope Adam's arm heals quickly. It was also fun chatting with Greg mid-scramble while trying not to drop Adam's phone into the abyss. Haha

Nice TR, looks like a good time and there's less snow than I would expect. I hope that shoulder heals up quickly for you Adam.
Say, what's a mountain goat doing way up here in a cloud bank?

Darn it, I should've done a better job on my quality control before doing the final save on my video. Thanks Redwic
