Interesting visuals. Obviously (from the comments posted in the video) the individual who made the video is well-acquainted with trains.
I've only driven over Tehachapi Pass in a car. It was snowing. The snowflakes were the size of pancakes. (really.)

He has a number of other videos from trips he has taken across the country, and even has videos from Mexico where he has encountered armed guards on trains and other dangers

When my father (who was a bare-fist boxing champion on a Marine Corps gunboat from 1928-1931) was discharged, he spent the next two years riding freight trains back and forth between Tacoma and Omaha (until he finally landed a job out in Spanaway cooking whisky.)
He told me one of the greatest dangers was being caught by the "yard bulls", who carried billy clubs and would beat the living crap out of any "hoboes" they caught on the trains or in the yards. (Stop the video and read the text on the bronze plaque dedicated to the "hoboes" in Barstow toward the very end of the video.)

Has anyone taken the old-timey train ride from Durango, CO to Silverton? My family did when I was a kid; still remember it (though I didn't remember to zip up my britches this morning when I left the house).
Also, there's a fall train ride from Ione to I think Metaline Falls; complete with a mock train robbery. Haven't done that one yet; sure want to though.
The Cascadia Inn in Skykomish has some really really nice prints of paintings of Iron Goat trains on its walls (I mean the prints are on the walls, not the trains); I think it's a local artist. Check it out next time you go. And if chicken fried steak is on the daily special menu - order it.
