Ray - You've done it again! Great lightning & cloud choreography.
Meanwhile, I've been enjoying this History Channel series "How the Earth Was Made" The narration & music get a little theatrical, but the science is fascinating. Each episode contains unusual details about phenomena we "think" we're so familiar with. The one about the Great Lakes really blew my mind. The largest salt mines in the world under Lakes Huron and Michigan??

Perhaps, but as one of our former Seattle mayors found out (Greg Nickels, I think), using sand instead of salt really screws up the stormwater outflow and has worse impact on whatever water formation it's flowing into.

And now for something really good! Although I can't find it now, I believe someone posted a video or article in the saloon about free diving not long ago. I became interested in free diving "godfather" Jacques Mayol after seeing the old film "The Big Blue", a dramatization based on his life. I was fascinated by his yogic training and quasi-spiritual orientation to free diving. His love for dolphins reminds me a bit of the recent film, "Octopus Teacher". I just discovered that a documentary was made about Mayol a few years ago.
The actor Jean-Marc Barr, who played Mayol in The Big Blue, voices Mayol's writing in some of the narration. I liked the film enough to want a DVD copy, but apparently it's still only available as a stream. Here's the Vimeo link:
https://vimeo.com/ondemand/dolphinmanfilm
The film provides info that somewhat explains, or at least contextualizes Mayol's unfortunate demise.

I just happened upon this talk the other night. VERY inspirational talk by a downed fighter pilot who went on to recover (spent a year in the hospital!), and then became one of the few select SR-71 pilots. He is quite engaging as a speaker.
