Another reason we "can't have nice things". Imagine how little trash we'd have, and despoiled landscapes, if stuff lasted for a generation or more. But then we'd also have to come up with an alternative to our economic system. Like they mentioned in Star Trek TNG.

I've heard a bit of Tuvan or Mongolian throat singing before. This takes the overtone thing to entirely different levels. The amount of control she has is astounding to me. I can't really wrap my mind around what she's doing.

I put some of this guy's clips on the music thread, but this stuff has great comedic value. In addition to some great guitar playing. I think he can come up with a riff that fits literally anything.

And with this, every vocalist from every metal band who uses the growling technique got extremely jealous.

I am a hopeless Luddite. unable to post links to utube.
BUT if you look for 14 Peaks Nothing is Impossible. ( netflix) Nimsdai Purju in 2019 climbed all 14 8000 meter peaks in 6 months 6 days with the support of a all Nepali team. They did use O2 above 8000 meters in a hybrid style.
It took Messner 16 years.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference.

Hey, I just saw 2 of those going the opposite direction yesterday. They were eastbound on I-84 between Portland and Hood River, maybe headed for the wind farm by Goldendale? I couldn't believe how big they are, probably 100 ft. long. I've always seen the wind turbines off in the distance, didn't realize the actual size of them.

I don’t believe it’s a fair comparison. Messner didn’t go out w/huge support teams, didn’t use oxygen, and there was the issue of having to finance it all. Also, anyone who lives year round at higher altitudes and/or was born there has an incomparable physiological advantage. I could be wrong, but Messner stands alone as a physiological anomaly among Westerners.

^ You should watch the movie. Nimsdai’s teams weren’t “huge”. Yes, they did use oxygen but only above 8000m, they carried all their gear up the valley, and they fixed ropes for themselves on a bunch of the peaks. I doubt that there was any other way to do this feat. Just the logistics of planning 14 expeditions in one year is amazing.
