Drove over Tiger summit. Kind of snowy on sides but road wasn't slick.

Arrived at the trailhead about 08:20AM. Only one car and another would arrive while I was getting ready. Turns out it was the Zachster soon joined by Snowdog to do a 2 car Old Si/New Si excursion.

I figured there was no one above me unless maybe they came from the Old trail. No snow at the start.

Just before 2 miles I put on spikes just for added traction in case I hit a slick spot. There was a little new snow on top of the old hard stuff which provided more traction.

By the 3 1/2 mile marker it was more snowy but not deep as long as you stayed in the trench with a couple inches of new snow on top. If I had lugged snowshoes I probably would have put them on for the heck of it.

It wasn't that deep but was harder work to slog through the new snow. I arrived below the rocks. Lots of snow on the rocks.

I climbed up a little. Not wanting to step out of the previous track and posthole in the rocks, after going up a short ways, I decided to turn around. I wasn't really excited about postholing in the basin anyway but was curious about the depth. It was kind of clouded in with no real views.

A nice snowy walk up Mt. Si. I have never been the first one up Mt. Si in this case breaking trail on the upper portion. I kind of wish I had brought the snowshoes to come down the back side. I saw a few more people on the way down but certainly no crowds today. Well since I start work on Friday, these morning weekday trips will be a thing of the past. I will have to get more creative and do after work hikes now. At least the days are getting longer.

wave.gif Nice to see you! We had a nice hike up the Old trail. Only one person ahead of us. The new snow made for decent enough travel but when it got steeper the snow got thinner and icier. We donned the spikes around 3 miles. Love the loop trip and was so nice to see some sun! cool.gif

I didn't see much sun until at least a little back on the Talus trail in the talus open area. There was no one ahead of me which was a first for me anyway on the main Si trail. While not deep snow lower down it did give that walking on the beach effect that takes a little more out of you.
