I wanted to get into Blethen lakes. I had hoped they might be snow free. Silly me! I made it from the Taylor river parking lot up to the 2400' elevation and the first creek crossing when I started walking on snow. Well if there was snow there the lakes would still be covered so I had some lunch and turned around. On the way out I stopped by the Dingford creek parking lot and messed around there. It was a good day in the woods with a pretty good workout.
Oops, wrong adapter for my G12.

That stringer is super dangerous. Doesn't it have spikes as well? You didn't try to climb down and up the embankments?

Yes it has long nails in it as well. I've crossed it before, I just didnt see any reason to cross it on this trip since I'd just be on snow. Ill get into the lakes later in the year. It is possible to climb down and cross the creek but it's a bitch.

Has been about 5 years since I was last at Blethen. At that time you had a choice of 2 logs to cross. Sorry to see there remains but one. It is the next crossing that seems more dicey to me. One false step and down a 60* exposed rock rushing stream you go! eek.gif Probably best you waited. The lake is not going anywhere... agree.gif

Life is short, hike hard...

Also not the most gorgeous of lakes. That said, I wish the FS would address that broken former bridge. That thing was scary in 03 when I was up there.

Any pictures of that second crossing?
