My apologies to Ree. We had planned on driving the North Cascades today to be at the gate opening. We decided to bag it yesterday. I woke at 0430 and couldnt go back to sleep so I decided to take the drive East to West so I wouldnt be at the gate opening. I had breakfast in Cle Elm and lunch at the Mazama General Store. Some really good vegetable soup. There were cars driving East but none going West. The weather got crummy around MarbleMount. A ten hour day and 435 miles.

I hope they plan on plowing out a little bigger parking area at rainy pass!

I'm not always sure I like being older but being less stupid has advantages. http://www.flickr.com/photos/32121172@N00/sets/

Dicey, there was a spot for 5-6 cars across the highway where I parked to take the picture. That said I agree with you.

Im sorry Ree. I went East to West so I missed the opening anyway. I got an early start too.

Lol. People are already tired of my VW Jetta TDI stories. 2001 Turbo Diesel Jetta. On trips like this one I usually get between 55-60 mpg. 14.5 gallon tank. 850+ miles. No batteries required! hockeygrin.gif

I had a Kia Sephia once that did the loop from Mount Vernon thru Boise, Utah, the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Death Valley to Yosemite and home up I-5 on $100. A couple years ago in my Jeep I went from Hornbrook, Ca. to Lynnwood on a Tank, 27 miles per gallon up.gif up.gif up.gif
