As of today we are formally implementing the following restrictions. We haven't had much of a problem with this in the past but it is starting to creep in, so here goes:
1) We do not allow links in signatures unless it is a link to your own personal website. A maximum of one (1) line is permitted for this use.
2) Absolutely NO images, animations, banners, etc. in signatures. Images go in the avatar area.
3) Signatures should not exceed three (3) lines (including blank lines).
4) Do not bold your signature, increase the font size, change the color to yellow, orange, red, etc. to make it stand out.
Thankyou!

You are fast as lightning. Without your tireless efforts and technical skills and overall mature judgment, this website might not exist, or if it did it wouldn't be close to what it is now. I mean that both in the "features" we have, and the civility of the board in general.
I am going to check my signature right now for compliance. I believe I have some extra blank lines that serve no purpose.

I never even considered the signatures on this site to be an issue, but it got so bad on another site I frequent that I did recently PM the admin. for a fix.
They now have both a signature "ignore" feature, as well as an avatar "ignore" in the code.
I like it very much.

We were lucky, all we got was the nose of the camel, which Tom just slapped with a rolled-up newspaper. Long live the non-commercial nature of this website! We are like an oasis of goodness in the vast desert of venality and depravity that is the internet.

I think this may need to be revisited or folks reminded. I've noticed at least one user with a very conspicuous signature...

Ha! I noticed him, too. But he is a nice guy, adding some good content, so I didn't say anything.

A quick pm to a moderator when you notice this stuff is totally appropriate. We can't be everywhere / see everything.

Since this thread was buried, there's no way most people know about this, especially someone new-ish. To me the important part is the no animation, a little bolding and color in the script don't make me cringe. Hey, if I had a cool blog, I'd want to advertise it to people who would find it interesting. It's a resource. So I'm not going to rat the guy out.

That's why I held out for quite a while. He does seem nice. It just started to glare at me and make me twitch a little. Kind of like when I see people use comic sans at work. The sensibilities of my graphic designer wife have started to wear on me.
In all fairness, I did mention it to him. So I'm not a complete passive-aggressive arse.

Oh no, he changed it. I was just starting to like the old one, it had a certain rebel appeal.

I forgot what mine looked like, better check.
No bold text, but I do have the word bold in the text.

You changed the color, so your signature is evil.
Wait, Tom only said don't change the color to "...yellow, orange, red, etc." Yours is bright blue, not yellow, orange, red, or etc. Carry on.
