Yep! Costco carries the hash browns, in a big yellow package. That is what I use.....

I hit costco yesterday & bought a large box of dry hash browns. I think they were $5.39. Any other thoughts (or links) on how to use these?

I use them the way Allison does. Anywhere I would use sliced potatoes, the dried hash browns work great. Their texture holds up, and they don't have any sort of weird flavor.

Ok, I see how to use them now. Thanks. Now I'll see if I LIKE them. Way back at the beginning of this thread, my main issue was packaged potatoes were way too salty. this way I can control that issue.

On packaged potatoes being too salty? Buy the plain instant potatoes, not the flavored ones. Those do not have sodium added.

I wanted potatoes with more texture, like scalloped potatoes. I'm hoping the hash browns will cook up something like that, in pieces, not like mashed potatoes. It was probably the sauce packet that came in the box. really really salty. if the has browns don't work I can always tgo back to scalloped potatoes but use only part of the seasoning packet.

Which Costco's did you find the hash browns In? I looked around the one in Issaquah and didn't find them. Only found the instant mashed type. Or maybe I was looking in the wrong place for them.

I see them in Covington all the time. Look near the instant rice, quiona, etc area.

PS: They come in a huge yellow "milk" style container.

I got them at the smokey Pt Costco. they were in the aisle with the dry pasta I think. big yellow carton that looks like a milk carton. Costco moves things around though so I'd ask if you don't see them.

I've recently become hopelessly addicted to Idahoan brand flavored mashed potatos. The 4 oz. bags are about 79 cents each, on sale. One bag is a perfect hit of nutritionless heaven. Super tasty, and just about the fastest hot meal I can make. Tear bag, add boiling water, stir and eat. Yum!

Idahoan instant taters are a God-send if you happen to get clumsy while cooking dinner and dump your entire pot o-food into the dirt. Instead of spending the night hungry, you dig out the package of Idahoan - any flavor will do - dump some hot water in, and eat. Your belly get's full, that makes you happy, and the evening continues as usual. up.gif
