SM, I'm talking about the yuppie pot not the brew. I like good coffee as much or more than the next person and I can make it using "traditional" methods. |

So these strainer thingies, is it like a fine copper mesh or something? Someone got a name, picture/link, store, I'd like to look at one.

The plastic, one cup pour over that I use can either be used with a plain old #2 paper filter, a mesh filter, or a cloth reusable filter
I generally use the metal mesh filter, but it does leave some silt in the bottom of the cup. Using the paper filters avoids that.

I have started using Mount Hagens instant coffee for hiking. It tastes more like coffee than Viva and it sells for under $ 7 for 25 packets on Amazon. Made in Germany. |

If it is one of the cheapest, lightest weight aluminum percolators, keep it when decide to move onto some other method.
Throwout the guts. Carry your stove in it. Boil water in it. It’s got a great handle. If it gets hot use the piece of flannel you use to prevent rattle for pot holder. All you need for one or two person trips.
Best. |

My most-often used methods, in order of preference:
1. Before leaving home I fill empty tea bags with my favorite coffee for single-cup use.
2. Cowboy coffee. My method is to add the coffee to boiling water and turn off the stove. Allow the coffee to steep for several minutes. Restart the stove and heat until almost boiling again, remove from heat, wait a few minutes for the grounds settle to the bottom, then pour.
3. Mooch off someone else
4. Via |

I've been buying the Folgers instant coffee packets. $1.00 for 7 packets. It's tolerable in the backcountry. Via is slightly better but the cost is totally unreasonable given my coffee habit. |

Man, just munch down some whole beans if you need a fix. One every 5 minutes over the course of an hour. Going through all that hassle in the morning just cuts down on hiking time! Get the chocolate-covered beans if necessary. |

I'm just taking a little cezve, clearly for one portion, and never mind coffee grounds. Then I just clean the cup and cezve with paper towel and go on.
