Here's another, somewhat more direct, route which leaves the DeRoux trail very early: John Morrow's TR

DHM's rock scramble is the one I want to do. Thanks for the link -- it's archived in my "new hike" collection now. Here's what Gallagher Head Lake looked like 10 days ago (June 4) from DeRoux

congrats on the progress and nice report... I did west/high esmeralda and koppen the day before with a side trip to gallagher head lake in between. saw no one from the trailhead until I got to the pass below koppen. the lake is currently a couple puddles in the middle of a snow covered open spot in the forest. more pics on my photobucket if anyone wants to see: http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h20/mhutch2/2011/6-11-11%20High%20Esmeralda/

Is it even possible to post twice on a single TR? I just did. Very nice, P-I-B!
