That's a cool pic of the length of the ridge. Tons of snow still up there and yeah some cornices to be wary of. You can also see that the character of the travel is a fairly moderate even slope but that there are some fatal dropoffs lurking not that far away so it is a place that deserves care. But it is a beautiful mtn and now that I think about it I agree with whoever said that it deserves a decent weather day. And the wet brush suggests a dry period too. If we ever have one.

It probably did. Nature won. But Adam also dished out the punishment, too. He accidentally jabbed me in the throat with his ice axe when trying to walk by me through some thick slide alder in the bushwhack section, in-between video segments. That could have made for a much more interesting video, with me gasping for air for a few seconds. embarassedlaugh.gif

Beau (and others that might be interested) - my memory of the snowfield is that where we crossed higher up, it was definitely steep enough to warrant crampons if icy, but the angle eases off considerably toward the "bottom" (e.g., where the cliff is), so the runout isn't too terrible. I was there in late fall and the part after the snowfield was the worst - traversing steep mineral dirt gullies (frozen in the early morning shade) - ugh. I'd bring crampons just for that. gag.gif

So why isn't the route up Mt Persis then over to the east not done more often? You can be above 5,000 ft in less than 2 hrs and contour over and up from there on snow. Looks like a heck of a lot easier than beating brush and doing a mega bike/road walk? I haven't done this route all the way, but I know I've seen TRs saying it's doable early on. I've sat on top of Persis with binoculars and it looks like just a long slog on snow covered slopes.

You can find a really nice trip report that describes that Persis ridge traverse, including the Persindex col and some apparenly very well-positioned and helpful magical blue polka dotted trail markers, right here. I plan to give it a go following my Red Pass-Goldmyer-Middle Fork-Magic Staircase-Tanks-Foss Lakes one way in August.
