First time in to Philippa. Trail is snow free except for brief area just below the last "lift" to the lake. I'm glad I went before eveything "leafed" up. I'm not sure I would've stayed on the tread when everything is in full green. Philippa crossing will be a lot easier when water drops a bit, but the log crossing point is trustworthy (I dropped to all fours. A tad slippery!) Lake is almost completely thawed, but the night we were there it "skinned" over with ice to almost 80%. We didn't stick around long the next day, but I expect as soon as the sun hit the lake it vanished. Fish weren't biting, but we saw some rising at mid-day. There's a journal at the campsite that was fun to read. Glad I bagged it. On to the next one!

Been there three times at various times of the year, never had good fishing even from a raft. Did catch a few small ones. Would think in a lake that size at that elevation that the fishing would be better. Any idea how long that journal has been there? I didn't see it when I was last there, but that was about 5 years ago.

Ive been there three times as well. Once I cleaned up the main camp site. It took hours. Ive never seen the journal either. What's next on the list Dr.?

The Journal is pretty funny. I saw it last year. Someone left some green leafy substance in it as a gift. My party left it for a more mello type group. That is a pretty worthless lake as far as fishing goes.

Well....next trip is slated for July 15th. So much snow still. Upper Tuscohatchie or Paradise maybe, but I'm thinking they will both be frozen still. Are Gifford lakes worth going to? I've been to Thompson many times over the years, but never Gifford.

The oldest entry I read was 2008. The most interesting one was dated 1/4/11. Talked about 4' of snow at the campsite. I don't think I'd have any interest in going up there that time of year.

I wonder if the Trailblazers stopped stocking it? I've seen fish, there, and I once met a pair of fishermen who hiked in with flotation devices ....... inflated! eek.gif ykm.gif

Something lost behind the ranges. Lost and waiting for you....... Go and find it. Go!
