Trailhead used: Tubal Cain Mine Trailhead off of FS Rd 2870--Upper Dungeness Trailheads.
Well, today was supposed to be cloudy and gray. So, the thought was to hike to places where fog/clouds/drizzle had minimal effect. It seemed like the best option was to go to Tull Canyon to visit the B-17 crash site and Tull City, then hop on over to Tubal Cain Mine and peer into the underworld known as mining. The forecast held up for the most part, but the nearest star did make an appearance for a few hours.
It was a bit foggy and cool for the hike up to the Tull Canyon turn off. The first mine shaft is also along this part of the trail.

After continuing on for a short while, bits of plane wreckage become apparent....then some larger pieces....then an airplane. A B-17.

Following the trail past the wreckage then brings one to the old cabins that were once part of Tull City.

The trail then meanders up to the upper portion of the canyon, giving way to hillside meadow, rock formations and a nice creek. Lots of wildflowers out right now, spreading their color upon the mountainside.

Venturing further up the canyon leads to snowy slopes and a field of large boulders. The canyon continues until transforming into a saddle between ridges...snow covered. To return to the lower elevations, one could utilize the express snow slide that has been provided.

After all the sunshine, snow, boulders and wildflowers it was decided to head to the main mine at Tubal Cain.

What? No Rhodie pictures. Surely they haven't finished blooming have they?
Funny, we did a similar hike for the same reasons back on the 13th. Doesn't look like much snow has melted out since. Thanks for the TR and pictures.

There were still a few rhodies in bloom. I think most were past bloom. I went down that trail on the 2nd, and they weren't quite ready. There were a few areas with plenty of rhodie petals laying along the trail.
