I make the dog carry it, that way he can chase the bear and spray it also if need be.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

I started carrying spray a few years ago, after a multiday trip in Wallowa NF. Fresh cougar tracks on the tiny ridge trail we had to use, really spooked me. The canister weighs almost nothing, and it gives me some peace of mind, wrt cougars, and the other stuff people have already mentioned.
