So i got a crazy idea to get up at 2:30 AM and leave the house by 3, and be in the parking lot at Sunrise at 4. Well 4:45 is close enough. But, I really needed another 30 mins or so to be at the Burrough's Ridge where I wanted to be at actual sunrise.
It was a gorgeous morning, all stary and pretty good size moon. A few other's had the same idea I did there were cars pulling in before and after me.

Oh well, I was close on the steep, icy slope below!
Didn't get much pink mountain cuz I was still making my way up
But once I got up what did I see!? 2 beautiful goats!

Bye bye goats over the hill you go
Then it was all about the mountain views, nice breeze, no bugs, very few flowers out in this area.
But was out, I tried to capture.
I made my way to 3rd, but wanted a different view so went off trail to the left a bit and stayed there mostly wandered and took it all in...

Going back up
Then back down other way sunrise camp/shadow lake, more flowers out on this side.
One scary crossing, my legs were shaking when I was done, it was soft and not fun!

More views
More flowers
Just another magical day in my fav park! Berkeley & Skyscraper Pass look to be in bloom from above, lots of purple right now fyi

The above crossing was worse than the ones going up to 1st Burroughs? Those at least in the pictures looked steeper and more sketchy. I was wondering how those things were doing, not so good yet it appears for those of us that hate steep snow traverses

Janelle. With all this hiking you do, it really would be neat if you'd spend some time taking pictures.

Excellent TR and pics! I was up there the morning prior for the flowers in Yakima Park. Very few people and a lot of beauty to be had!

Tigermn, i didn't get a good shot of it cuz i wasn't about to take my camera out, it was worse to me than the other side big drop down and slushy and less traveled than the other side which was firm i used spikes and big steps. But I made it, so it's all good.

That side has a wicked run-out...if you slip you're going to tumble on rocks a long way down. That patch of snow persists into August/September even in a normal year.
Like Scrooge said, you really need to get that camera out more often! You captured some really beautiful light at that hour of the morning.

Funny last year that patch down the other side was gone while the ones up to 1st Burroughs lingered longer. By the time I got there late in the year there was only a few feet left and it wasn't too bad.

you are tough to awaken at dark o'clock...drive drive drive.....hike the steep and icy slope to the burroughs, take outrageous photos, and then write about it!
while you were being amazed with the sunrise area, i was in awe at emerald ridge! i loved it!

Yeah, it's a sneezefest alright. I was down there yesterday and barely made it out with my sinuses.
trail to Skyscraper
So when you get there that early, do you still have to stop and pay the 15 bucks to get in?
