Keep in mind that DHM has a vivid imagination when it comes to boot paths. hockeygrin.gif
Heh. Just because YOU can't see it doesn't mean it's not there. I was on a bootpath caused by human visitation almost all the way down. We noticed the bootpath at around 3900' on the route up. Saw it on the right side of the creek, wedged up against the cliff just before the weakness in the cliff that we took up to the right (i.e. up onto the rib). Gaining the rib left the bootpath behind -- it continued up the shelf another hundred feet before dodging right to join us on the rib and into the meadowy bowl with the creek crossing our path.

Did your route take you anywhere near the huge slanting slabs
Nope, I'm guessing you came up the route that hits "RY" in BOUNDARY on the topo. Pretty sure we came up "UN".
I think you might be right, Tom... Got any more pics you want to share of your route up that ridgeline, Puzzlr? I'd love to see them...

The other memorable item from our climb was the extremely slippery rocks in Stilliguamish creek, and it was a warm day -- no ice. Did you find that or was a temporary thing?
I remembered that bit in your trip report and commented on it to Tom. Nope, not slippery at all. We ended up crossing the river back and forth and back and forth -- not a lot of room to work with along the sides of the riverbank -- and I was cautious each time, but the footing on the rocks in the river seemed pretty stable to me. Not slick/slippery at any point. Not sure what the difference was, but you did start 2 hours earlier than us. Perhaps there was a touch of frost in the air?

The next party heading up might want to bring a new register. Mike brought both registers down as they were no longer usable.

I'm going to try to salvage them as best I can. First step is to get them out and try to separate the pages. They were soggy, pulpy masses. The film canister was soaked through -- I couldn't see the writing on the paper anymore, actually. The other register (nice PVC, FWIW) had swollen to fill the container. Also, the snowfield in the south basin was a little unnerving to me. Not so much going up, but definitely so coming back down. I slipped on the way back and managed to self arrest, but it wouldn't be a place you'd want to slide to the bottom. Would have been safer if we'd been roped and had a picket in place with a running belay. Next time... wink.gif

I brought a soggy 10+year-old register home recently from Middle Mountain, MFK. When it was wet there was almost nothing visible, but I could peel the pages apart and laid them out to dry. As the sheet dried out the pencil markings became much more visible than when wet. Not sure the same effect would apply to ink on paper.

Wow, lot more snow up there when we were last there in Sept 2007. Looks like our Register notes may be pulped up by now as well? Nice pics all around! up.gif
