I'll be in Twisp Mem. Day weekend and looking to hike that Sat. I heard about some hike called Angel's Staircase near Carlton. Sounds like it might be a long way to any views so other suggestions welcome. I'm trying to get in shape for Mt. Jupiter first weekend of June so the longer the better. I was looking at ones off the Twisp River Road also as one set of friends is coming from Omak.

Slate Creek was open with only a few snow patches to about 5800ft... Then the snow got deeper... lol... It is steep... starting out at around 2800ft and then 5800ft in around 3 or 4 miles... You can get beyond where we stopped as the snow was well consolidated... We just got tired... lol... Thre were plenty of view spots thru the trees to make the hike enjoyable... By Memorial Day, you would make it a lot further and can also keep following the ridge and not make the last turnoff to the lake whicjh would drop into snow on the northern side... There is a possible highpoint over 7000ft... Canyon Creek (across from War Creek) should be all open and follows a ridge... and is a little lower in elevation. The first parts of both these trails climb steeply so your legs should be suitably "exercised"... :-) And you are only a few miles from Twisp for dinner when done... lol... I would suggest the Twisp Orchid which is actually on the start of the Twisp River Rd in town... Southeast Asian/Thai... fresh and excellent... Then there is also the Twisp River Pub... both are favorites of mine...

Happy Trails... pasayten

Sounds good, BPJ. Magellan, we'll be over there visiting the in-laws in Twisp. I feel bad if I leave more than one day wink.gif , but I go stir crazy just sitting in their house with sports blaring and talk about fishing and hunting lol.gif . I have to get outside and move!

Pasayten: Thanks for the food ideas. My husband and his family do not like healthy or "weird" food so everything I would like to eat they can't stand. I usually feel pretty awful after eating processed food for a weekend dizzy.gif so maybe I will claim that I was so hungry I had to stop at one of those places!

Bummer. We won't come back until tuesday. That sunday afternoon/evening commute is really nice on a holiday weekend.
