Hiked Mt Walker yesterday - had never been. What amazing views! And an asskicker for sure. Its not the 2000' on the way up - it's the 2000' on the way down that kills! Just ask my left medial meniscus. smile.gif And I'd never stopped in Quilcene. Had a great cup of coffee at a little cafe there. Cool little town. Makes Port Angeles look like a big city! Anyhow - some nice shots on a crystal clear day: http://www.protrails.com/gallery/640/ Enjoy! Dave

Thanks for the report. Next time stop in at the Quilcene Village Store for some Quilbilly Coffee. The Quilcene Museum is worth a visit also.

Is the Whistling Oyster still in Quilcene? It was the local watering hole when I worked there for a couple of summers in the '50s. I heard said that they would serve you if you were tall enough to see over the bar. I was in my late teens at the time, so had no problem getting a beer whenever.

sorry to say the whistling oyster has been closed for years, the building is still standing and I think it's for sale.

If someone doesn't re-open it under the same name, then the classic sign should be displayed in the museum. .
