Yikes, get better soon--before the good hiking weather goes away. Any suspect areas?

I'm guessing i got it during that polar bear dip in Virgin Lake over the weekend. Probably ingested some water. Also dropped a granola bar on the ground...still ate it. I'm gonna chuck my water filter, and start over.

Incubation period is 10-14 days, so I doubt you caught it Labor Day weekend.

That was 20-some years ago, but a friend of mine got a nasty case of giardia from the spring at Buck Creek Pass. He figured that because the water was coming directly out of the ground, he didn't need to treat it. That was the only time he didn't treat his water. The incubation period was just right and lab tests confirmed that it was giardia. He also was very particular about sanitation. Most filters do need to be changed every year or two, depending on amount of use. . It's true, however, that inadequate sanitation (such as not washing hands) can be the cause. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

ah, geez. Just got back from the Spider Gap/Buck Creek loop this past weekend and didn't treat the water at Buck Creek because I was filling directly from the spring after 3 people pointed out "hey, you don't need a filter".
