Gorgeous photos. The kids and I hiked up to the falls this summer. It's so cool to see what's beyond that part so we have something to look forward to in the future.

awesome day trip .. love all the beautiful pix .. your's too parked out .. sweet view up there .. we have been saving the hike to dodger pt for if and when we do the bailey i can't imagine hiking the deer lake trail twice in one day .. ugh .. it's awful on the knees and ankles .. though i will say a couple of yrs ago we did it in the fall and only spent 1 nite in the basin .. i remembered it was pretty rocky .. but this week going out .. we both said, never again going down .. but the scenery from deer lake up is just so gorgeous .. and i'd love to spend some quality time in the potholes -- always we are blowing thru there .. so i know we will go back again ..

What loop do you mean? Deer Lake-Low Divide-Mink Lake? How long does that usually take you?

thanks silence....... the 'fastest' i've hiked the high divide loop (in the good ole days) was 8 hours. last time was about 10 hours. best to hike it in 10+ hours to enjoy the area especially when it's your first time. if i can only figure out how to bypass the hike from sol duc to deer lake and heart lake back to sol duc! love everything in between!

Thank you everyone for your comments... It is a very photogenic hike and worth the effort... We only saw the one bear this trip but as I mentioned he was very close !! Usually there is more wildlife up there... Last year when the NWHRL's Lisa and Neil and I did Hoh Lk, Bogachiel Peak and High Divide we saw 13 bear, Elk, deer etc etc. up.gif up.gif

You forgot to add FEET... rotf.gif I also enjoy the Potholes area... very beautiful !! Like bobbi, if I could figure out a way to bypass this section and also the drudgery of Sol Duc trail below Heart Lake... I would be in heaven... ykm.gif

It is actually called Little Divide. This is also a nice loop, about 9 mi. and 2500 ish ft. elev. gain. Not the dramatic views of the High Divide but still very nice and worth doing !!

It's all about the fun, oh and maybe the chocolate - half fast
