I figured I'd post a report since many are probably curious about snow conditions. I parked at the bus turnout (a little over a mile past the main Mt Si parking lot for those that don't know) bright and early at 3pm and was on my way (quickly, I might add) shortly thereafter. There was a little wet coating of snow in spots in the forest along the logging road. There is a slippery thin coating of snow below Kamikaze Falls (2400 ft) that gets progressively more slippery. The mixed conditions were tough on such a steep slope. Above the falls the snow becomes a few inches deep before the knoll at 2850 ft. Microspikes help through the section up the spine. The snow gets deeper more quickly after 3600 feet, and by 4000 feet, the microspikes will do you no good. It is slushy underneath the snow until this point. At the meadow c4350ft, the snow is nearly 2 feet deep. It was surprisingly consolidated up through the meadow, but noticed it was getting harder underneath. Even here, one more good storm and it could be dangerous.

I used my crampons as I knew it would be slippery/icy ascending the cliff area at the top of the meadow. I booted up through the small forest and had no problems getting to the summit. There is a lot of snow up there for this early.

For anyone that cares, it used to be 1.56 miles from the road to the summit and 3570 ft of gain (steeper than mailbox by a good margin).

Ah the first snow has hit. Nice pics. How did you make it back to your car before dark?

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else lol
